THE INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH IN STUDYING PSYCHOLOGICAL INFLUENCE
OF MASS-MEDIA LANGUAGE

Summary: The article concerns the new field of scientific research lying
within the borders of psychology and linguistics. The problem of studying the
psychological mechanisms of mass-media language is raised. The main object of
study is modern youth.

The first decade of the twenty first century has shown the
amazing changes in development of mass media and its influence on people’s
lives, on various aspects of a modern person’s life. Prompt development of
telecommunications, broadcastings, the wide choice of informational channels,
changes of informational and communication technologies are the significant
factor determining the form and the quality of person’s life. Modified
informational field promotes instant distribution of the information thanks to
new technologies and advanced electronic adaptations.
The Internet development and the increasing requirement of the modern
person for reception of new information about the world have opened huge
possibilities of the influence on addressees’ consciousness. Information
sources play special role in young generation life, especially in teenagers’
lives. This age is characterized by the special intensity of informative
activity, the formation of socialization and self-identification as priority
directions in development and self-development. Recently the educational
institution, family, parents have been the main sources of information
reception. Now these social institutes have been substantially forced out by
mass media.
It is known that during the youthful period the person’s mentality is
vulnerable, and formation of all spheres of the person occurs under the
influence of mass media which change representations of the young boy or girl about
various subjects, phenomena, events. Modern person has an opportunity to expand an
outlook, to raise culture level, to be well informed about occurring events in
all corners of globe, to be informed in sphere to the politician, economy,
culture, also to get acquainted with the various points of view on problems of
public sense through mass media.
Undoubtedly, modern mass-media is capable to provide «greedy youthful
mind» with qualitative, useful and really informative material. Nevertheless,
along with it young person who is passing a stage of formation of his/her vital
position, the self-relation and self-determination, is influences by the
powerful stream of the doubtful information often directed on frank manipulation
by his/her consciousness.
In modern psychology youth is
considered as the special period of human life, when an orientation of the
person’s development appears; the bases of such a development have been put at earlier stages. So in youth
the basic potential and an orientation of this development reveals. In numerous
researches this age is defined as critical, crisis, rotary, so and sensitive in
development of the basic mental functions which are the original base for the
development and formation of the person. Thus studying all factors and stages
of person’s development in training, in a youth is important for a modern
psychological science.
One of
specific features of this period (youthful age) is development of the
strong-willed making person. Besides, in a context of the given problem
research of character of influence on formation of the strong-willed making
person both endogenous and exogenous factors, and also the search of the most
effective conditions for development and perfection of will of the modern young
man is actual.
The
described socially-psychological situation puts the questions demanding careful
studying of character and degree of influence of the information maintenance, mass-media
broadcast on modern generation of youth, in particular, on development of
emotionally-strong-willed and motivational sphere of the person. An ultimate goal of such research can be the
development of the complex programs representing the system of measures,
directed on optimization of psihologo-pedagogical influence of channels of the mass-media focused on
harmonization of development of the person of modern generation of youth.
Analyzing
the current situation and with the foundation of the revealed contradictions,
it is possible to draw to a conclusion on expediency of studying of mass-media influence
on formation of the emotionally-strong-willed and motivational making person in
youth, and also actualizations of interdisciplinary interaction within the
limits of studying of this question with use of conceptual positions of the
branches connected with psychological
and philological sciences, sociology
(including youth sociology), cultural science, philosophies, ethics.
