Podcasting as a means of learning communicative competence in the professional sphere of students of not language education University.

The purpose of foreign language teaching at the present stage is a development of students' communicative competence, ability to cross-cultural communication and the use of the target language in the field of professional communication.  Task of the teacher - to find such methods, means and forms of education that contribute to achieving this goal.

Due to the progressing integration computer and Internet technologies in education, there are unique possibility to use the process of learning a foreign language a variety of means, which can be divided into two groups: 1) synchronous communication tool and 2) asynchronous communication tools.

The first group includes online tools that enable to communicate in real time (chat, video / audio chat, teleconferencing). The second group is tools that allow to communicate with a time delay (forums, electronic and audiomail, sites, blogs, podcasts).

Recently application of last (podcasts) for studying and improvement foreign language skills is becoming increasingly popular.

Podcasting — derivative of the words iPod, a popular MP3 player from Apple, and broadcasting) is a new format of distribution of audio and a video content on the Internet.

The main advantage of podcasts is usability.

First of all you choose podcasts according to those topics that interest you.  Secondly, you can watch/listen directly on a site to any episode separately or subscribe for the RSS feed automatically to receive all new podcasts by means of special programs (for example, iTunes). Thirdly, you have an opportunity to download free audio / video episodes with the latest news and to listen/look through them by means of various technical means with support of the most widespread formats: computer, MP3 player, iPod, mobile phone, autoradio tape recorder, house stereosystem of an IDVD-player. Podcasts used for the purpose of language learning can be divided into (news of known foreign TV channels and radio stations, speeches of politicians, the scientists, famous  people native speakers) and adapted (created especially for studying foreign as the second language taking into account level of proficiency).

The most famous sites and information channels that provide the opportunity to download adapted podcasts:

BBC Learning Englishwww.bbclearningenglish.com, Listen to English www.listentoenglish.com, Voice ofAmerica www.voanews.com, English as a Second Language Podcast www.eslpod.com, Breaking News English www.breakingnewsenglish.com

This category of resources is useful not only that the audio/video records is quite easy in perception due to artificially slowed down rate of reproduction of a voice and use of the simplified lexical and grammatical structures, but also that the majority of them is accompanied by the scenario of transfers, a set of exercises and additional Internet links related topic. This makes it possible to study language independently. However, the greatest value for the formation of the communicative competence of future professionals in the field of professional communication in a foreign language is listening / viewing authentic podcasts on specific topics. Being the teacher of English at students of veterinary faculty, I try to use adapted and not adapted podcasts for language learning specialty.

All materials are sounded by leading experts in area of veterinary medicine and represent the educational information are somehow necessary for future veterinarian.

Thanks to the systematic use of podcasts as a group and individual work, students get a good lexical base of language of specialty and observe how these linguistic units are used in practice.  And thanks to it already in the course of training students use language as means of natural communication. Undoubtedly, listening of transfers promote improvement of skills of audition and increase of speed of the internal speech that further positively affects development of skills of monological and dialogical speaking and formation of communicative competence of trainees.
