ADVANTAGES OF ALTERNATIVE EDUCATIONAL FORMS IN DEVELOPMENT OF ENGINEERS’
COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCY
Higher technical education in Kazakhstan is “result
oriented”where result means socially active citizen and competent engineer.
Professional competency is not enough for the present-day
specialist.Communicative competency is a required component of general
competency. It is communicative competency in Kazakh Language (CCKL) that is of
especial significance in Kazakhstan due to official (state) status of Kazakh
language.
Content of modern university educational
programs cannot meet multi aspect language problems of future specialist.
Graduates inquiry shows that not all students acquire the necessary level of
Kazakh language knowledge during the course of study. As a result, there is a category of citizens who due to one
or another reason has not acquired the necessary level of state language
knowledge in standard educational institution. In the meantime, society tasked
the teachers to give every citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan the
opportunity to acquire, in the shortest period possible, language competency
that will allow the most competent performance of professional duties in state
language. To fulfill this social order, studying in the standard educational
institution is not enough, it is necessary to address to the alternative educational forms, asthey are adapted to various
categories of students. Our inquiry shows that course training education is an
alternative educational form in-demand currently at our republic.
This paper reviewssome theoretical issues of
state language course training education related to its typology, and
advantages in improvement of professional communicative competency in state
(Kazakh) language for graduate specialists.
The term determining the educationalmethod
under discussion is not unambiguouslyidentified in methodological literature.
Authors use such terms as “postgraduate courses”, “preliminary (short-term)
courses”, “intensive state language courses”, “language seminars”and others. We
agree with those researchers who prefer using the term “course training
education of state language”. The above mentioned terms (“postgraduate courses”,
“preliminary (short-term) courses”, “intensive state language courses”,
“language seminars”) should be considered as specific (narrow) terms, and
“course training education” – as general (wide) term.
Let us consider the differences between course
of academic subject “Kazakh language in education institution” and course
training education. Course of academic subject “Kazakh language in education
institution” is an academic standard educational form (undergraduate,
graduate), its content is characterized by completeness and consistency of
subject presentation. Course training education is an additional alternative
educational form. It can be presented by separate course trainings. Course
trainings are fragmentary and short-term.
Let us review advantages of
course training education over standard forms of state language learning. As an
alternative form of state language learning, course training education has the
following advantages: 1) opportunity for the learner to improve the
communicative competency long-life; 2) variability and flexibility of
educational goals, communication-thematic content, and education methods; 3) high motivation of learners; 4)
psychological comfort in the form of constant attention to the learner’s
personality, consideration of learner’s age-related, psychological, and
personal characteristics, and informal class setting; 5) syllabus adaptivity
(flexibility); 6) opportunity to study for different social groups.
As a
result ofthe above mentioned characteristics and advantages, course training
education is an effective additional alternative educational form. It
contributes to the improvement of professional-communicative competency in state language for graduate employed specialists.
Thus,
course training education is essential in improvement of
professional-communicative competency in state language, however, to our
opinion, its potential is not fully utilized.
