Teaching written translation of scientific and technical texts for
future engineers
Despite
the fact that translation has existed for many centuries, and learning of
foreign languages through the use of the translation – for more
than two centuries, translation teaching methodology changed insignificantly
and requires improvement. The aim of our study is to analyze the methods of
teaching translation and identify ways to improve it. According to linguists,
learning transfer only by finding lexical and grammatical equivalents in the
original language and the translation explains why students are often unable to
understand and reproduce certain material, because the meaning of the sentence
or the text is not the sum of the values of the individual
lexical units [2].
Prof.
Alekseeva I., considering the traditional methods of teaching translation,
identifies the following methods:
-
Translation training in a specific industry, which begins with a study of
lexical units and their equivalents in the target language, with a gradual
transition to a complex grammatical structures;
-
Analysis of the text and the translation, the result of which is to determine
the features of the text and principles of its structure;
-
Identification of all existing equivalents in the target language;
-
Evaluation of the various translations led training [1].
It
offers a comprehensive translation method of teaching, which includes three
stages: preparatory, basic and learning.
In
preparatory stage, students study different types of texts and do their
analysis. The author recommends not only do test analysis, but also to find
such texts in the language of the translation and analyze their
characteristics.
The
main step includes the translation of text analysis, analytical search
translations and analysis of the translated text. An analysis of the text, in
its opinion, should not be scientific research, and to be directly aimed at the
translation needs. The best translation should be chosen from those that have
been proposed by students.
At
the last stage, the transfer of training on a material of the same type of text
or text a certain professional field, the choice of which is determined by the
needs of the market.
It
is important to familiarize the student with modern linguistic scientific
picture of the world, to improve the quality of language communication is in the
scientific and professional sphere, to form individual language competence,
which ensures the competitiveness of the future expert in today's job market,
teach yourself to create your own language strategy is a manifestation of the
communicative strategies of modern professional.
Language
of scientific literature is characterized by a large number of terms, different
types of cuts, benefit cuts of some other syntax, translation feature a number
of grammatical constructions, elliptical character of expression and so on. The
main stylistic feature of the scientific and technical literature is brevity
and clarity of the material formulations. One of the main differences in
language of technical literature on the language of fiction is much saturation
text, special terms that are often lacking not only conventional but also in
terminological dictionaries. With the expansion of human knowledge is
increasing need for new definitions, vocabulary is expanding, and the expansion
is mainly due to the new terms.
During
the translation of scientific literature it’s necessary to have knowledge and
skills of the new terminology for accurately translation it on own language.
This is one of the main challenges during this translation.
