Ergonyms serving the law enforcer

Ufa is one of the largest cities of Russian Federation. Ufa is the capital of Republic Bashkortostan. The population of the city is about 1 105 700 people. In 2015 Ufa held the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS summits. Today Ufa is the world-famous city with extensive infrastructure which consists of numerous public institutions.

A future lawyer should learn how to navigate in the city. It is important for him or her because it is the main part in the professional activity. Knowledge of language of the city is the obligatory part of the knowledge of a police officer.

Modern police, relying on the language knowledge of the city, must be able to classify and collate information quickly about establishments where crimes or offenses are committed. Training in the high school the Interior Ministry of Russia, future plans to link own work with the crime detection make knowledge of the city features actual and of high importance.

In this research, ergonomics is considered as one of the areas of onomastics. Onomastics (“art to give names” in Greek) is “the branch of linguistics studying any proper nouns and history of their appearance. In a narrow meaning, onomastics is the proper names of various types. The subject of onomastics is onim (proper noun) which distinguishes him object among other objects”.

In this article the intercity catering is considered: dining-rooms and restaurants which are very popular among the native of Ufa. People come here to relax, refresh and communicate. However, due to obsessive attitude, shamefulness, rudeness of particulate persons, a converse becomes unpleasant for visitors and ends with fights, scuffles and insults. Moreover, in such establishments often occur thefts, fraud and robbery. At this moment the operational activity of police officer becomes necessary.

Ergonym is considered by us in the aspect of motivational systems of nominator which citizen must determine in the title, including a police officer and therefore all titles are divided into the following motivational groups:

Informativeness of ergonym (the ergonym which maintains specific information):

А) Location of an institute: U ozera restaurant (this restaurant is located near the lake), Lesnoe café (this café is located near the National Park Foresters Bashkiria), Ashhana vo dvore café, Na Guryevskoy café, Lido in Pushkin street café, In Sophia Perovskaya street restaurant, Sani na Zorge restaurant (according to the Ufa street names), U Fontana café (snack bar in the Kalinin district near the fountain), Versailles restaurant (palace and park complex in France, the former residence of French kings in Versailles city, now it is the suburbs of Paris), LidoNew restaurant (Lido is a seaside climatic resort on the north-east of Italy), Pivnushka na Melnitse

B) National characteristics of the proposed cuisine

- Japanese cuisine: Japonica restaurant, Indo-China restaurant, Malenkaya Yaponiya restaurant, Tokyo restaurant (the capital of Japan), Wasabi restaurant (kind of perennial herbaceous plants, as well as the kind of sauce), Sakura restaurant (Japanese cherry tree), Mikado restaurant (Japanese Emperor title);

- Bashkir cuisine: Agidel restaurant (the river of Bashkortostan), Akbuzat restaurant (from Turkic- magical winged horse), Baksheesh café (from Turkic “gift, bribe”), Bashkir cuisine house snack bar, Idel bistro (third Ural-Batyr`s son, as well as one of the medieval names of the Volga), Uraltau restaurant (one of the longest mountain ranges of the Southern Urals), Ufa restaurant, Khan restaurant (Turko-Mongol title);

-Europe cuisine: Maximilian’s restaurant (by the name of the well-known Bavarian Duke Maximilian), BellaItalia restaurant, Dublin pub restaurant, Casamia restaurant (from Italian “my house”), Sabroso restaurant (from Italian “tasty”).

2. The reliability of ergonym (the ergonym, inspiring calmness and confidence, promising comfort and coziness): Vstrecha restaurant, Gosty restaurant, Kormilitsa café-restaurant, Svoya Kompanya restaurant, Svoyak entertainment centre, Ben cotta restaurant (from Italian “well cooked”), Fresco café (from Spanish “chill”), Life karaoke-bar, Rest-time restaurant, Rise coffee-house.

3. Aesthetics of ergonym (the ergonym taking into account the aesthetics of perception, pleasant, positive impression of the name):

a) ergonyms-anthroponyms: Aigul café, Guzel café, Laura café, Marlen bistro, Nastya café, U Vereshchagina pub, U Kateriny café;

b) ergonyms-precedent names: The twelve chairs café-bar (on the book by I. Ilf, E.Petrov “The twelve chairs”), Aladdin restaurant (the character of oriental tales), Alenkij tsvetochek café (a tale by Sergei Aksakov), Alye Parusa café (a novel by Alexander Grin), a chain of Emelya pubs, Zhar-ptitsa cafe (characters of Russian fairy tales), Sherlock Holmes restaurant (a famous London detective, by A. Conan Doyle), Robin Hood restaurant, Elf restaurant;

c) ergonyms motivated by social class (appealing to high society, prestige): Imperia restaurant (monarchical state), Barin restaurant (a nobleman, landlord, a member of privileged social groups in the Russian state until 1917), Baron restaurant (a title of nobility, below a count), Prestizh restaurant (authority, influence which is used by someone ), Hall D`Lux banqueting hall.

4. Self-expression in ergonym (the ergonym motivated by people features and their behavior):

a) ergonyms is motivated by outstanding features of people: Mechta Gurmana café (a gurman is a subtle connoisseur of delicious food), Scrooge Bar bar;

b) ergonyms motivated by age and gender characteristics: Papa`s Club café (for men, “for fathers”), Devichya Bashnya restaurant (female sign), Nyam-nyam cafe (for children);

c) ergonyms motivated by hobbies and culinary preferences of people: Beef-bar grill-bar, Beer-лога sport-bar ( “beer”+ association with bear housing), Rocher restaurant (from German “smoker”), Sportivnye Khroniki sport-bar, OFFside sport-bar.

Thus, it is necessary to study the semantics of ergonyms of modern Russian language for the purpose of interpretating them by modern police officer. Knowing the semantics of the ergonym can allow modern police officer navigating in difficult language system of the city more successfully. It also helps the police officer understands beforehand, thanks to the name interpretation, what sort of people can be serviced in the particular institution.
