The role of ecological
responsibility in the activities of chemical companies
Recently,
there is tightening requirements to the market actors in the protection of the
environment, environmental safety, labour safety, which allows to consider green
production as a competitive advantage to ensure successful positioning in the
market.
The
development of the international community in recent years compounded serious
threats that arise in various areas of economic, technological, and
environmental information. The world community has recently chemicalization
particularly concerned over the economy, emissions to air, waste to the
environment, using of unsafe products, saturation fields of agrochemicals,
industrial accidents, of which it should be noted that shook the world in March
2011, accident at the nuclear power plant "Fukushima" in Japan,
exposing the threat of radioactive contamination. In this regard the importance
of such component of business as social responsibility can not be
underestimated, defining the current situation of companies in many areas.
In
itself, the concept of social responsibility rather multifaceted, it includes
both the occupational safety of employees, care about the level of training,
social welfare in vernal environment and, in particular, the protection of the
environment and maintaining the ecological order - which is particularly
important for the chemical industry which public view causes serious harm to
the environment as a whole.
Activity
production of chemical products is a primary process in the chain in a threat
to the ecological security of the country. Therefore, one of the priorities of
the producers of chemical products is a social responsibility to consumers in
ensuring environmental safety and security at all stages of the consumption of
chemical elements.
Therefore,
building the foundations of the system of industrial health, safety,
environmental protection - is the main reference point for improving the
competitiveness of domestic business structures of the chemical complex in the
external market.
The
implementation of social responsibility also involves a serious advantage not
only for business, but has a positive impact on society and the institutions of
state governance in general. Partnership between the state and business in
addressing social issues is highly effective because the social responsibility
for today's businesses need to become conscious, speaking a form of the
realization of sustainable development for the international market.
The use
of a tool such as corporate social responsibility in the chemical industry, the
strengthening of consumer influence on the formation of the economic behavior
of the business in the information society directly affects the cost of equity
companies of chemical industry and their capital.
This
fact suggests that the role of the concept of corporate social responsibility
as the most important ways of increasing goodwill and a positive image of the
company will increase, determining their competitiveness in a globalized world.
Of
particular importance in the management of competitive business structures
through chemical complex instrument of social responsibility is becoming
openness of business, making it more appealing to the target audience (eg,
investors, the community, staff, regulatory agencies), increasing its
competitiveness. An indicator of the level of openness in the chemical industry
is to participate in the international initiative Responsible care
(responsibility to protect), approved and adopted by organizations such as the
ICCA (International Council of Chemical Associations) and CEFIC (European
Chemical Industry Council). The program aims to address issues such as:
environmental security, energy efficiency, health and safety, the introduction
of social programs, ensuring industrial safety, etc.
In
contrast to international experience domestic chemical companies do not take
active steps to improve the work in the direction of environmental safety.
However,
for the Russian chemical industry adherence to the program "Responsible
Care" was a major step on the way to work with the international standard
in the field of chemical production. Implementation framework of this
international initiative on the first Russian chemical enterprises (such as JSC
"Nizhnekamskneftekhim", JSC "apatite", JSC
"Schekinazot") preceded by a long preparatory work aimed at
understanding the basic values, the conditions of the program. Thus the main
objective was to reduce the level of indicators such as emissions to air and
water sources, reducing injuries in enterprises, as well as improving the
quality of products. Currently in the "Responsible Care" participated
by the largest chemical companies in Russia: JSC
"Nizhnekamskneftekhim" "Silvinit", CJSC "BASF",
OJSC "SIBUR Holding", JSC "MCC EuroChem", JSC
"Phosagro", JSC " Gazprom Salavat Petrochemical ", etc.
Thus,
it was established that the development of the chemical industry in the future
is related to the development of socially responsible business. This aspect of
social responsibility, environmental security for the companies of the chemical
complex will be one of the major conditions for achieving competitiveness in
the domestic and foreign markets.
