Criminological characteristics of the individual offender in the serial murders

Multiple serial murders began to attract special attention. The reason for this is the more frequent commission of atrocities in recent cities and their very dangerous consequences; many victims, including children, the complexity of the investigation, in some cases.

There are several types of the behavior of the serial killer within a single episode of the series. The most common is considered as the six-step model. Of course, taking into account the situation and the personality of the criminal, it is not always realized in the fullness of its elements. However, in all cases, as it involves the initial stage, named in the West – the fantasy phase.

Fantasizing - an indispensable part, a key element of a serial killer’s behavior system. In other words, long before he comes into action, i.e. begins to kill, it may be said, there is some sort of a fatal obsession which transforming into some forms or types of fantastic dreams. In some cases, these fantasies are very simple, in others - quite intricate. But they are always present, as inevitable. The fantasy reflects the needs, motives, anticipates the "benefits" of plotting murder.

Psychologists found that imagination plays a crucial role in the genesis of a serial killer .Forbidden dreams associated with sex and violence may emerge from time to time in each. However, morally social taboos and self-control in the majority of people will never allow these fantasies embodied in action. Fantasy is different from the serial killer normal human fantasies that they more and more disgusting as represented by the component of physical violence and restraining mechanisms in this type of criminal non-existent.

Unlike normal people, serial killers will never get rid of his childhood fantasies. On the contrary, they go deeper and deeper into the world of sinister, nightmarish visions. Although seemingly a serial killer may look quite ordinary man - a good worker, sociable neighbor, a good citizen, I thought it insane, bloody fantasy. Because psychopaths are devoid of internal constraints that hold a normal person from the sale of forbidden desires, their perverted dreams of power over other people, and of the torture of the blood pushing them each time a new crime [1; 93]

The second phase is called the phase of stalking (stalking victim). The nature, duration and other features of the behavior of the killer at this stage depends on the strength of his desire and the degree of impatience, personal qualities of both the offender and his chosen victim.

A real case confirms this. Maniac learned home and working spouse car parking space intended victim. With this in mind, he determined the motorist spends some time on travel from home to work. Knowing how much time he has to do what he thought of the killer chose the best time of the attack on the victim.

Similarly enter the so-called organized killer. Unlike in disorganized killer phase of stalking them is so compressed that it is possible to assert almost complete absence of it: a disorganized offender attacks a random victim of a sudden. In the eyes of a serial killer at this point it as if there is no family, children, husband, family, friends, hobbies, and attachments. In this state, the serial killer to the life of the victims' neither more nor less than to break the paper into pieces.

The third phase - the kidnapping victim. This phase is also present in all cases of serial killings. Disorganized killer often resorted to "blitz attack." Organized by the murderer uses various "tricks" and cunnings to tempt the victim in "convenient" for a murder zone. Depending on the condition and personality characteristics of the killer kidnapping can be either very simple or very complex, allowing it to demonstrate their intelligence and ingenuity.

The fourth phase - the act of killing itself. There are two options criminals behavior at this stage. Some of them focus their attention on the actions related to the deprivation of the victim's life, the other - in the process of physical interaction with the victim, resulting ultimately to her death, and postmortem handling the body of the victim (the victim).

In the first case, the act of killing itself is done quickly. As for the killer is important result - the death of the victim, rather than accompanying the murder of obtaining sexual gratification, or intoxication with power over the victim.

Fifth phase - the placement of a corpse. This phase is also not typical of all serial numbers. Some of them, enjoying the manipulation of the body, throw it and leave the scene of the crime. Others consider it necessary to carry out the movement of the corpse. These actions are a motivational coloration. Someone moves corpses leaves it in a position where it could soon discover. Others are guided by different motives. For them, the important thing is the desire to do everything to the body could not be found.

It is engaged in daily activities and from seems quite normal. Over time, the burden of the crimes becomes so unbearable that he is able to write a confession and send it to the police or call the local newspaper and ask for help there. But soon begin to be born again of fantasy in his head. Uncontrolled needs entirely capture the murderer, and, driven by a thirst for violence, he again searches the territory where, not knowing their fate, walking his future victims. And here's another one does not feel the danger of the stranger is in his way, stepping into the tunnel of death. And again unfolding ritual murder, leading to the inevitable end. [2;211].

According to our data, if we exclude the stage of depression, considered the scheme of the criminal behavior of the serial numbers it is easy to find and in behavior other types of individuals committing a variety of intentional, pre-prepared the crime. The point, however, not the case. Importantly, the difference between the studied us criminal type from other types of persons acting in a similar scheme, lies in the peculiarities of substantive content of each link of the given chain. That's about it and not only about it will be discussed in the next paragraph.

To penetrate into the depth of motivational mechanisms of criminal behavior of serial killers is possible only in the context of their relationship with the victims.

Victims of this type of crime are always strangers or unfamiliar people.

Every serial killer chooses his victims according to a certain, not always obvious at first glance, the criterion. For some, murder is a kind of emotional discharge, release deeply repressed, carefully concealed, even from himself, feelings. In the mind of the serial connection to the victim exists, but the nature of this connection is emotionally-mediated. The victim serves as a trigger, prompting memories of who once upon a time, in childhood or adolescence, someone humiliated, insulted the future killer, in some way abused him. Your anger, fear, hatred serial killer brings on the innocent victim. Killing her, he for some time freed from the painful memories once endured the humiliation and helplessness. In the eyes of the murderers the crime committed is an act of retribution for the past, he thereby justifies their behavior, getting rid of feelings of guilt[3;243].

The vast majority of serial killers are sexual sadists. Murder and full power over the others at this time give them a sense of the fullness of life, cause emotional cataclysm, which is akin to an orgasm. (A phenomenon called "the Dracula syndrome"). Some serial killers sadistic tendencies coexist with unbridled masochism. (According to the FBI, about a third of serial killers involved in self-mutilation)[5]. Serial killer Albert Fish swallowed thirteen metal needles. It took two jolts before Albert Fish died, the apparatus was short-circuited by the needles that Albert Fish inserted into his body.

A considerable role in the formation of future criminal played by his childhood hobbies and activities. Many serial killers (David Berkowitz, Henry Lee Lucas) in his youth "carried away" arsons. Ted Bundy, subsequently ruthlessly raped young girls, was a lover of "hard" pornography. Ed Gein on leisure, reading obituaries in the local paper. This fascination gradually grew in his visits to cemeteries, and then the corpses stolen from the grave, it was not enough. And the first victims of so many killers became our four-legged friends. Almost half of those who killed the people in childhood were doing it with animals. Often, the trigger for the killer is some kind of a thing, action and fetish. For such a famous Anatoly Slivko served fetish clothing pioneer, especially shoes. After the killings, which Slivko recorded on the camera, it is often burned them. Shoes, shiny, polished, excited him (as you can see, has sexual connotations and this aspect). Of course, the phenomenon does not occur out of nowhere: in childhood Anatoly became the witness of death pioneer teenager, especially remembered for future serial shoes unfortunate. For some maniacs their own passions, hidden until then, becomes a surprise. In some cases, the desire to overpower common sense forcing the murder, but this is often not the case. It happens that the offender takes place a shift of consciousness, the so-called "offset moral paradigm."It sounds abstrusely, but in fact it is not difficult. Just a killer, who committed a crime, believes that it makes for the benefit of someone or something (Society, of all humanity Jesus Christ, Uncle Sam, and so on and so forth). An example will serve as Albert Fish, who in his own words, the Lord appeared and ordered to bring children as a sacrifice. What maniac and did, in addition to enjoying. It is doubtful that the phenomenon of God took place to be anywhere other than perverted ogre consciousness. Most likely, Fish was just abnormal. So we got to the last reason, the most controversial and the most common at the same time. The reason for this is – craziness (can also call it insanity, madness, "mental illness" and other terms). It is difficult to deny the obsession of many serial killers, because the question arises: "Is a person in their right mind, would make it?" It arises as the obvious answer, but that's just the commission which determines the degree of "normality" of the accused, judged by different criteria.
