Training Physicists in Ukrainian Technical Universities as a Way to
Growth of Industry and Economics
The trend toward a reduction
of the state support in the preparation of specialists in physics, which are
formed in recent years, causing great concern in terms of the prospects of a
development of education and the quality of training of future scientists, not
only in the physical sciences.
Note that one of the latest
innovations of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is to reduce the
budget financing of training of students in the specialty "Physics".
In particular, this year is planned to complete rejection of the budget places
on admission of applicants for this specialty in higher educational
institutions under the technical direction of the formal pretext of technical
universities are non- profile in this specialty. The mere posing of the
question in such a manner raises serious doubts as to the adequacy of such
judgments.
Really, we all know that
physics is one of the basic disciplines in the learning process of students,
without exception, all engineering specialties. And it is logical that
technical universities prepares specialists in physics, which further provide
fundamental training of the engineering staff. Moreover, almost all the
technical universities that train specialists in the specialty
"Physics", carried out serious scientific research with the
assistance of its students, which improves not only their level of education,
but also forms the skills needed for future scientists.
It should be noted that all
technical universities for decades created the conditions for better training
of specialists, physicists, involving well-known scientists, expanding training
base, by all means improving the status of physical education. As a result of
this new scientific school, prepared candidates and doctors of physical and mathematical
sciences, considerably strengthened the base of general scientific training of
students, including those have been established and engineering.
Let's just imagine the
consequences of such hasty decisions in the near future. Obviously, such a move
will lead to the inevitable outflow of serious scientists from the educational
process at the faculties, the leading training in the specialty
"Physics", primarily due to lack of demand for their knowledge and
skills. Naturally, such a large-scale reorganization would make it impossible
also the preparation of future candidates and doctors on the basis of these
universities. As a result, we get another involutionary spiral in the
preparation of highly qualified specialists.
I think it makes no sense to
argue that in case of failure of the state budget order, students are unlikely
to rush to the training contract in this specialty. Unfortunately, in recent
decades, the government refused to support the prioritization of basic
scientific disciplines, and the sad outcome of this choice we are able to
observe in our days. Really, the innovation component in the domestic industry,
which is just based on scientific studies, almost reduced to zero. In addition,
a clear priority and the main form of employment are increasingly becoming the
sphere of trade with the loss of competitiveness of the knowledge-intensive
industries, which inevitably leads to the degradation of the economy.
I also note that, as a rule,
the level of training of the majority of graduates in physics disciplines,
including technical universities, in the opinion of employers, in most cases,
is an example to follow. Even in cases where physicists graduates choose
another industry for its work, their level of training allows them to quickly
and efficiently learn almost any new activity. And even in this case, when the
state could say that, in preparation of the expert-physicist who later chooses
to work not on the basic specialty, - the budget money allocated for its
training, wasted - this is not correct, since, on in fact, in the output we get
a specialist who is able to work successfully and progress in any area, thus
developing the state.
Moreover, objectively, most of
the universities, which obviously suffer from such innovations, are famous for
their high quality training of specialists-physicists. Now the country is bound
to lose some of the best representatives of the forge frames – both scientists
and teachers.
In summary, I can only add
that the adoption of such decisions at the state level should not be restricted
to a formal approach and the decision of immediate budget financing problems
due to the destruction of the country's future, especially in terms of
development. Never before destruction of successful schools of training
specialists did not lead to progress, because it is highly skilled and is the
basis for building a successful society and a strong state. Therefore, the
responsible persons of the Ministry of Education and Science should reconsider
their decision and support funding for the training physicists in technical
universities of Ukraine.
