THE ROLE OF HUMANITIES KNOWLEDGE
IN MODERM SOCIETY
As
it was set on the basis of scientific literature analysis, at the end of the XX
– at the beginning of the XXI century the role of humanities knowledge in
society has increased even more that resulted into the increasing attention of researchers to the major problems of
the individual and society. This idea is reflected in the works of many
scientists.
So,
I. Kornilov believes that the present situation is the result primarily of
existing "cognitive turn" in the sciences on a man and society.
Accordingly, the society transformation into a new information model has led to
a change of emphasis today in scientific research conducting in which central
objects of research is taken by the problems of a man and society. I. Kornilov
also notes that the specificity of social and humanitarian knowledge is
manifested in its relationship with independent choice of a particular
subjective human decision, as well as his or her practicing of own personal
design position, which formation is influenced by different motives, including
those that go beyond limits of objectively ascertaining fixation of reality
[3].
The
similar ideas are expressed by N. Rozhanska who believes that importance of
social and humanitarian knowledge increase in modern Ukrainian society is due
to internal changes in the life of our country: the political, economic,
social, cultural ones, as well as it is caused with modification of leading values system. In light of this
there occurs a need to develop a holistic concept of interaction between social
and humanitarian education and society democratization process [5, p. 1].
Noting
the leading role of the humanities in the life ofsociety, B. Krajewski is
confident that many negative aspects of life activity in modern society, and as
a result the created difficulties in
private life of its members, could be avoided if "social consciousness and
public policy would be more susceptible to the broad social and humanitarian
fields of activity of scientific knowledge "[4].
In
line with research, L. Hrynin’s findings were also useful. L.Hrynin finds
out the main reason for the need to
rethink the humanities in rapid changes in the existing world. The author notes
that in modern society the flow of new information is constantly increasing,
accordingly, every person is encouraged, on the one hand, with the growth in
understanding the relativity of their cognitive abilities, and on the other
hand, with the need to define deep ideas that allow to describe and understand
the reality. Obviously, in this situation, the experts in the field of social
and human sciences should be prepared to seek new approaches to research.
The
author also points out that today the development of above all mentioned
sciences in all the countries is greatly affected with the media and communication
in the social sciences. As a result, the scientists are increasingly becoming a
hostage of finished ideas generated by the media, although there has to be
observed the opposite situation. In particular, the experts in the field of
social and human sciences should be able to correctly predict future changes in
society in terms of its active transformation, as well as to prepare public
opinion and even to propose specific recommendations for the actions in the new
social situation [1, p. 4, 9].
Ivan
Dementiev categorically asserts that humanities along with nuclear bomb
inventors and experimenters in genetic engineering take nowadays a significant
share of responsibility for everything that is happening in the world. After
all, the representatives of the humanities are depended upon the willingness of people to accept the
existence of different opinions and the level of their generated critical
attitude to the obtained information [2].
Thus,
based on the above -presented we can conclude that the role of the humanities
in society is constantly growing. This increase is due to the following
reasons: 1) in modern society there is an urgent need to overcome the
technocracy as value orientation in the public consciousness that calls for a
fundamental transformation of all aspects of society and especially the
spiritual field, including an appeal to humanitarian knowledge; 2) the noted
knowledge pocesses significant opportunities for the formation of critical and
reflective thinking, spiritual world, emotional and value sphere of
personality; 3) the identification of objective information in humanitarian
research (including major historical events
dates, stories of literary works, etc.) takes somewhat secondary importance
compared with the formation of the researcher's own subjective assessments of
specific events, actions, , practicing of their own meaning of life, ideals and
attitudes; 4) the humanitarian knowledge capture by a man is performed as a
process of creative activity.
