Improvement of pedagogical skills of secondary school teachers through self-education activity

"The teacher learns the whole life" - a well-known truth. But after a few years of working teachers are divided into those who quietly moves on thumb track using old techniques, once successfully triggered, the old plans - performed solidly, phrases, jokes and with varying success prepare students to a level when tutors began to work with them, and those who, despite the cyclical nature, frequency and apparent monotony of training activities are constantly looking for, make something new. It is really an important indicator of true professionalism.

Author of numerous teaching aids for teachers V.M.Lizinsky expressed the absolute truth "Teacher is a person who learns all his life, only in this case he takes the right to teach." This professional teacher is in constant development, and during  his working life, he is a researcher. And of course, self-education and methodical activities influence on the formation of teachers'professionalism.  Modern society has increased the need of teachers to upgrade the content of its activities through critical and creative thinking and its application of science and advanced pedagogical experience.

Education must be ongoing because major changes in society are predetermined the rapid development of modern science and technology.

In 1984, UNESCO has been proposed interpretation of Continuing Education "Continuing education is every kind of conscious actions, which complement each other and take place within the education system and outside it in different periods of life; This activity is focused on the acquisition of knowledge, development of all aspects of personality and abilities, including the ability to learn and prepare to perform a variety of social and professional responsibilities, and to participate in social development, both nationally and across the world. "

The concept of continuing education and upbringing of the Republic of Kazakhstan supports the same idea. "A new model of education is the nature of the activity, aimed at creating the desire for lifelong learning and self-development of creative abilities. The system of education of children and young people is based on covering various levels of education: pre-school, general secondary, technical and vocational, higher post-secondary graduate, extra. "

Today, there are about three dozen of terms related to the concept of "lifelong learning". In the UK the term "continuing education" is used, in the United States - the term "lifelong learning", in Sweden - "Renewable education." There are other terms: permanent education, further education, adult education, postgraduate education, and others.

In modern conditions, the basic criteria of professionalism of the teacher are developed, on the basis of which it is possible to present a model of the 21st century’s teacher.

A modern teacher is:

- Harmoniously developed, internally rich personality, striving for spiritual, professional, general cultural and physical perfection;

-a teacher, who is able to select the most effective methods, tools and technology of training and education for the realization of tasks;

- A teacher, who knows how to organize a reflexive activity;

- A teacher, who has a high level of professional competence;

- A teacher, who has the desire to improve themselves and be implemented in a variety of professional competitions.

At the present stage it can be considered only quality education enables a person to self-determination, self-development, self-improvement. A.Disterveg thought that only education is considered complete when a person becomes capable of further self-development. This idea is the basis of the traditional self-understanding as a complementary basic education received in educational institutions.

Today to replace the classical idea of the possible formation of a "fully developed personality" comes  understanding the fundamental incompleteness of man's formation. The flow of professional information is not only growing, but the quality is updated, so the self-development is recognized as the leading value of education. The need in  self-education, as a special form of professional activity, as a way of life in a developing information space increases all the time.

“The self-education” is understood as specifically organized, initiative, systematic cognitive activities, aimed at achieving certain personal and public importance of educational goals: the satisfaction of cognitive interests, common cultural and professional needs and skills.

The essence of self-education is the mastery of technique and culture of mental work, the ability to overcome challenges, to work independently on his own improvement, including professional.

Sources of taking knowledge in the process of the self-education can be: TV, newspapers, magazines, literature (methodological, popular scientific, journalistic, artistic, etc.); Internet access; video, audio, paid courses, seminars and conferences, master - classes, sharing activities experience, tours, theater, exhibitions, museums, concerts, training courses, travelling.

All sources we can be divide into as promoting personal growth and promoting professional growth. However, they can also contribute to both.

If we imagine the present activity of the teacher in the field of self education we will get such verbs: read, study, test, analyze, observe, write.

Every teacher should have a personal level list of results to be achieved over a certain period of time.

The results are self education -monitored teacher should monitor at a certain stage (continuous self-education, but it should be planned in stages):

- Improving the quality of teaching the subject (please specify indicators that should be determined by the efficiency and quality);

- Designed or published manuals, articles, books, programs, scripts, researches;

- Developed forms, methods and techniques of training;

- Reports, presentations;

- Developed teaching materials, tests, visuals;

- Developed guidelines on the use of new information technology;

- Working outs and carrying outs of open lessons on their own, innovative technologies;

- Pedagogical developments;

- Generalization of experience on the researched topic.

There are some indicators of pedagogical self education of the teacher - they are, first of all, -  the quality,  the teacher organized his own  educational process and professional growth of the teacher’s qualification.

Very high demands are laid to the personality of the teacher in modern society. Professional competence of the teacher is a multidimensional  phenomenon. It includes not only the specific basic scientific and methodological knowledge and skills but also the ability to work with people, depending on the professional and general culture of the teacher, his value orientations, ideas about the meaning of their activities and  themselves as professionals. The ability to understand the spiritual world of the pupils, respect and credibility, broad humanitarian culture, high professional speech culture - the main qualities of teachers that need to be improving throughout the teaching. No matter how effective pedagogical councils, meetings of Defense, psychological and educational seminars, courses, business simulations, but they can never replace the independent work of the soul and the mind.
