Credit card - a plastic card that is tied to one or
more accounts with banks. Used to pay for goods and services, including through
the Internet, as well as for cash withdrawals. There are debit and credit cards.
Debit cards are used for the disposal of his own money, located in the current
account in the bank. Credit cards are used for disposal of the bank's money,
when making the payment automatically taken from the bank on credit.
Despite the attractiveness
of the using it, bank cards have a number of disadvantages and one of them -
the theft. Theft of cash from bank cards - is a worldwide problem. There is
even a list of high-risk countries in which it is not recommended to use a
plastic card when paying for purchases.
These is mainly developing countries of Asia, South
America and the Middle East, such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Mexico and
Brazil, also Israel, Syria, and Iran, there is a risk zone in Eastern Europe too
- in Albania, Ukraine and others not so economically developed European
countries.
In Kazakhstan, this kind of
crime is not so extended, but it is not linked with any special security of
system cards, it is just the fact that bank cards and payment for goods using
credit cards is not so common and more people prefer cash.
The most common way to steal - it read PIN plastic
card with the help of special devices that fraudsters set at ATMs.
The safety of payment systems
VISA, MasterCard, using of credit cards for payments in the Internet also
involves the using of the most advanced technologies of the transactions which available only to banks and major
international financial institutions.
Let us dwell on the more applied aspects of the safe
using bank cards, more precisely on the two decisions in the security of
transactions:
1.
. CVV2
(Visa) / CVC2 (MasterCard) - a three-digit numeric code generated by a special
algorithm, and printed on the back of the card or on a slip to sign immediately
after the card number or the right of the strip. Thus the number of the card
may be either complete, or consist of the last three numbers
2.
Laminating
cards. In this case, during the production of a card with both sides covered by
laminate (protective layer) and pressed at a predetermined temperature. This
one-of-a-kind method that makes it possible to "hide" inside the map
required elements (microchip, an antenna, a magnetic strip).
Also, as is the case with credit cards are lacquered
Lamination - excellent method for
protecting the surface
3.
Magnetic
stripe appeared in the late 70s. It is one of the most common security
features. It is of low coercitive and, accordingly, high-coercivity and can
have a lifespan of a few months to life. Magnetic stripe provides not only protection but also allows electronic
devices to read any information from the card.
4.
The numbering
- also called text personalization. In this case, the map data are applied in
the form of letters and numbers. These include full name and date of birth of
the card holder, its number and expiration date, etc.
5.
Embossing - is the application of text
personalization by extrusion. After that, the data can be painted in gold,
silver or any other color.
6.
The barcode - is coded information, which is
applied in the form of grooves of varying width. Most often used in
identification cards and contains personal information about the owner.
7.
Scratch-stripe
is one of a large number of protective layers, which has the form of opaque
stripes. Used to protect classified information. Typically, the edge of a coin
is erased. Widely used in the field of payment services and internet
connection.
There are also a security elements include a hologram chip iridistsentny,
UV, metallic paint, and foil stamping.
Unfortunately, even the most perfect protection can be
neutralized, her clumsy and sometimes careless use, so cardholders must
constantly observe safety precautions when working with payment by credit card.
