The usage of translation for non-language specialties

Learning, understanding, and being able to speak English opens up for students opportunities, especially in their profession today. Students of non-language professions fear that learning English is too hard and sometimes they will not a need. Idiomatic expressions, grammar and punctuation seem to be some of the hardest concepts to understand, but a dedicated student can have the language mastered in no time at all.

The translation played a significant role in practical tasks during studying the English for a long time. Then different kinds of communication have been appeared, traditional reading loudly and translation methods put aside. Nevertheless translation method found its place in the modern methods of teaching. It is one of those methods which remain an effective method for successfully and fruitful studying the language. Now teachers and students use translation only to study language, but not to study how to translate.  Modern kinds of tasks include translation from source to target language, has an exact communicative aims, cognitive aspect and high level of motivation to study the language further.

There are many reasons for starting up translation for non-language specialties.

It is work which gives students the chance to estimate in practice quality of the knowledge accumulated by them in the field of a foreign language and directs them on improvement of skills and abilities on classes in a foreign language. The translation takes an important place in language studying. At the first stage of training the translation from the native language on foreign is a very good tool of fixing of a grammatical material, just as the translation into the native language is checking of exact understanding of this or that design.  Numerous types of training of translation bring a big variety into a lesson [1;76].

To be able to translate, it is necessary to work with the dictionary accurately and quickly. But it should be learned. With the dictionary students begin work on lessons. Some students met an unknown word, at once start looking for word in the dictionary, without having studied at least approximately the general contents of the text. After students will learn to find the necessary form of the word, there is a new task – to find a necessary word meaning as the majority of English words is multiple-valued.

The translation from the native language is a good exercise of mind.  Students, who have done many exercises on the translation from the native language, have strong knowledge of grammar and they will remember a verb predicate place in the sentence. However from the very beginning it is necessary to show structural distinction of languages to help to overcome a habit of the native language.

Exercises on the translation are formed so that the connected text was provided. It is absolutely impossible, for example, on the separate sentences which haven't been connected with the general sense, to teach correctly to use an article or temporary forms of a verb. Students like to translate individually, in couples, in groups, therefore most of the usage technique is a group work. Hence they can maximize understanding the given text. When using this way they remember phrases, lexicon, a cliche, phraseological features of language. At development of skills of the translation students have to be able to create various variants of translation, to paraphrase, touch and select "intermediate" options.  To development of these abilities apply also various exercises [2; 6].

Many students consider that translation is a boring activity, nothing giving. But numerous types of training bring a big variety of occupations. The translation helps not only to expand a lexicon stock, but also to develop the monological and dialogical speech, broadens horizons, cultivates independence, responsibility and develops patience.

To conclude aforesaid, we can observing the certain ways of the translation: Fluently to see all text and try to understand its contents; In the presence of compound sentences to divide them into simplier; In each sentence student must find a predicate and a subject; Attentively to look narrowly at the words having familiar or international roots, suffixes try to establish value of these words; To find unclear words in the dictionary, correlating their values to a context.

The role of translation helps students to overcome misunderstanding some differences in languages. The importance of English language in our lives is, it is spoken, read or understood in most parts of the world. Without translation, students could not have easily used in engineering projects, medical treatment etc. The most major role of translation is that it offers for students treasures of knowledge in all social sciences like political science, economics, sociology, philosophy and psychology.
