The position of  al-Farabi Kazakh National university in the world ranking of higher education

 

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University  (KazNU named after al-Farabi) is one of the first higher educational institutions of  Kazakhstan.

Over 82 years of its activity, the University has made a great contribution to the formation and development of the economy, politics, law, education and science, and the culture of  Kazakhstan.

Al-Farabi KazNU  has been formed  to this day and remains the  alma mater of higher professional qualification, one of the main centers of scientific research work in the Republic.

Since 1991, the University was named after the great philosopher Abu Nasr ibn al-Farabi, and since 1993, according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan ¹1059 «On the status of al-Farabi Kazakh State National University "on January 9, 1993, gained the status of an autonomous self-governing public institution and was renamed the Kazakh National University.

The first steps towards the implementation of international training requirements were taken, and the creation of a new  scientific-innovative infrastructure, it is a transition to a two-level system of training "bachelor-master" and the creation of a network of research institutes and a technology park within the university. On July 25, 2000, the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved the Regulations on the special status of the Republican State Enterprise "Kazakh State National University named after al-Farabi" as an autonomous state higher educational institution.

And on July 5, 2001, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On granting special status to certain state higher educational institutions" to al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the first of the universities of Kazakhstan was given a special status of the national university.

September 16, 2003 in the city of Bologna(Italy) al-Farabi KazNU signed the Great Charter of Universities. Thus, it was the first among the universities of Kazakhstan and Central Asia paved the way for practical entering the University of Central Asian region into the world educational space.

In 2006, al-Farabi KazNU became the first university in the history of the state - a laureate of the award of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for achievements in the field of quality.

It should be noted that in November 2008, al-Farabi KazNU successfully passed the accreditation of the French certification body Bureau Veritas certification.

Al-Farabi KazNU is the permanent leader in the General rating of Kazakhstan universities. In 2009, al-Farabi KazNU entered the list of 600 best of 16,000 universities in the world according to the prestigious rating of the universities of the Times.

In 2010, al-Farabi KazNU took the first place in the ranking of the best Kazakhstani universities, prepared by the Independent Kazakhstan Agency for Quality Assurance in Education.

Al-Farabi KazNU is today the first and only one Higher Educational Institution of the educational system of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which was awarded a special diploma of the authoritative international agency Thomson Reuters "For outstanding achievements in the field of science in 2011".

In 2012, according to QS World University Rankings, two universities from Kazakhstan for the first time ranked among the top 400 best universities in the world, thereby showing great progress since 2009 when they first entered the rating. It should be noted that MSU (Moscow State University) ranked 112   place in this list, while St. Petersburg State University (St. Petersburg State University) – 251, L.N Gumilev Eurasian National University – 369  and  al-Farabi  KazNU  – 390 place.

In 2013, al-Farabi KazNU advanced in the international ranking of Webometrics Ranking of World Universities on 1000 positions and became a leader among universities in the Central Asian region.

In 2013, al-Farabi KazNU the only one of the universities of Kazakhstan was accepted into the program of the United Nations "Academic Impact", established by the initiative of the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon.

In January 2014, al-Farabi KazNU was entrusted to lead the global hub of United Nations Academic Impact (UN Academic impact) on sustainable development.

Basedon the research results of the well-known international organization "Great Value Colleges", itentered the list of 50 most knowledge-based universities in the world, taking 31-st place. It should be noted that in the rating the Kazakh national university is the only representative of not only the CIS countries, but also Eastern and Central Europe, and  along  with Singapore and Japan represents the entire Asian continent.

Thanks to  the system transformations, al-Farabi KazNU demonstrates a progressive advance in world university rankings. So, in 2015, in the international rating of QS  al-Farabi KazNU took 275 place among the 800 best universities in the world.

According to the independent Kazakhstan Agency for Quality Assurance in Education al-Farabi KazNU won first place in the National rating of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan,  confirming its leadership among the best multi-profile universities in Kazakhstan.

In 2016,  al-Farabi KazNU  led the rating of the best sites of Kazakhstan universities. The position of the university in the ranking of Webometrics is 1st  Place in Kazakhstan (2001 place in the world).

In 2016, according to the QS World University Rankings rating, al-Farabi KazNU took 236 place among the 800 best universities in the world.

In 2017, al-Farabi KazNU confirmed its high competitiveness at the world level, and entered the top 250 best universities of the world, confidently retaining 236th place among the 800 best universities in the world.

In the same year, in the world rating of UI GreenMetric World Ranking Universities al-Farabi KazNU took 198thplace.

September 19, 2017 during the session "Development of cooperation in the field of science and technology" rector of al-Farabi KazNU G.M. Mutanov received the gold medal and the ISESCO International Prize. This award was presented by the General Director  of the Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture (ISESCO) Al Toujri. The ISESCO Prize is awarded every two years to scientists of the member states of the organization for a special scientific and innovative contribution in the fields of biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics and scientific technologies.The activities of this international organization dedicated to comprehensive support and development of science, education and culture of the Islamic world.
