SIMULATION OF CORPORATE NETWORK WITH THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT OPNET MODELER 14.0

KEW WORDS: SIMULATION, CORPORATE NETWORK, THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT OPNET, MODELING, TELECOMMUNICATIONS ENVIRONMENT.

The article is about simulation of the corporate network, the network scale of the city (Metro Area Network, MAN) in the software product OpNet Modeler 14.0 and analysis of the results.

Corporate networks are called enterprise networks. Network enterprise (corporate network) brings together a large number of computers in all areas of the individual enterprise. They can be difficult to relate and to cover the city, region or even continent. The number of users and computers can be measured in the thousands, and the number of servers - hundreds, the distance between the networks of individual territories may be such that it becomes necessary to use global connections. For connecting remote local area networks and individual computers on a corporate network used a variety of means of telecommunications, including telephone lines, radio, satellite communications. Corporate network can be represented as "islands of LANs" floating in the telecommunications environment.[1]

This article describes a software system simulation(OpNet Modeler 14.0), which is focused on the communication network and allows the model without programming.

The program OpNet Modeler 14.0 is a set of tools for creating, modeling and learning networks. It allows analyzing the impact of applications such as client-server and new technologies on the network; hierarchical network model, multiprotocol LANs and WANs based on routing algorithms; to evaluate and analyze the performance of the simulated networks. Also with this package we can check the communication protocol analysis of interactions of protocol optimization and network planning.[2]

We simulated corporate network using the OpNet Modeler 14.0. Access of users to the core network is carried through switches, organizing local networks. The basic technology for the construction of a corporate network is Ethernet [Figure 1].

Figure 1 – Sample of the corporate network

On the basis of collected data can be seen the presence of congested parts of the network, which are a critical link in the functioning of the entire network segment.

After the end of the simulation we got the following characteristics:

In the figure 2 are shown a graph download link using a routing protocol and communication bandwidth.

The program OpNet Modeler allows to analyze existing and planned networks. When using OpNet Modeler, it is no need for time-consuming of calculations of the search of network weaknesses. Any network situation, expansion or transformation of the network can first be simulate and evaluate the consequences and only then start construction works and purchase of equipment.
