From the experience of teaching English in special (correctional) classes for children with mental retardation.

Foreign language is a compulsory subject in the school curricula. The purpose of learning a foreign language is the development of communicative competence. But in the correction classes cannot be one of the stereotypes, the cliches, the recommendations in teaching.

A foreign language teacher takes responsibility for the feasibility and effectiveness they develop educational programmes of teaching a foreign language, adapts, simplifies and optimizes General education program for students with mental retardation, primarily paying attention to the shift in goals from the point of view of practical language proficiency on the overall development of children.

In the first place should be the task of development of thinking of children, their memory, speech, activization of their cognitive activities, and enriching their knowledge about the world, what foreign language contributes more than any other subject. Language competency is not a goal but an effective means of solving this problem. Planning the ultimate level of practical proficiency in the class correction, you need to assume that the speech of children with reduced intelligence in their native language is limited by the level of household needs, poor lexical scope and sometimes grammatically incorrect, therefore, grammatically complex speech in a foreign language they don't master, since the degree of proficiency of a foreign language depends on the General level of development of the child. Complex structures and clichés such students will not be learned, it is possible to carry out such work only with the purpose of acquaintance.

A major role in the formation of a positive attitude to learning in such children is played by the creation of a favorable psychological climate (comfort) in the classroom, reducing the level of anxiety of children, the "hidden" (educationally appropriate) differentiation of pupils on educational opportunities, interests, abilities and interests, arousal, interest, emotions, creating the situation of success, which creates a sense of self-confidence, a sense of satisfaction, "using assessment as a formative (and not just the result of a tool)", the mandatory use clarity in the classroom (bright, clear, different variants of the same words, events), the teaching (each lesson), the introduction of material in small portions in context, encouraging at the slightest progress. It is always necessary to evaluate students not so much by its results, how much for effort and effort .This increases self-esteem of the student, makes you want to work on.

When working with such children first and foremost, we rely on the principles of correctional-developing training. Here are some of them.

1. The principle of dynamic perception in which the tasks are arranged according to the degree of increasing difficulty.

2. The concept of productive information processing, which is implemented with the help of tasks involving self-processing of information and language guess. When working with text That already got it? What words are new?

3. The Development and correction of higher mental functions due to the inclusion in the lesson specific exercises for correction and development of attention, memory, listening, reading and speaking.

4. The principle motivation for learning, which is implemented primarily by the clarity of the tasks , so the boys understand what they need to do to get the result.

To teach foreign language in the class of correction is not easy, but interesting, because it's a constant search, creativity, overcoming difficulties, the child with the teacher. This job especially requires teachers endurance, knowledge, and skills not only in pedagogical , but also psychological, skills to catch all the subtleties and nuances of any child's character and behavior. In accordance with this, to find effective teaching techniques. Humane attitude to the child, the vision in it of the individual, respect for his / her problems and individual peculiarities of his behavior and character – the success of teachers in teaching any child, but for children classes correction in secondary school these principles are doubly important.
