Formation of
English speaking communicative competence of technical students by means of
electronic communication
In
terms of high-level informational Ukrainian society and the growing number of
foreign contacts in various fields of human activities (politics, economy,
education, culture, etc.) foreign language becomes a mandatory part of future
specialists training. Highly competitive specialist in modern job market is
considered to be able to work with different data sources, process the data
obtained and to effectively use it in further academic or professional work.
Taking
into consideration the fact that the vast majority of information in the world
is presented in English, problem of quality English language training of university
students is becoming the most important issue. Furthermore, active use of the
Internet teaching resources in teaching foreign languages allows to solve
several practical problems associated with the introduction of credit and modular
educational system, including curricula reformation, strengthening the role of
independent work, changing teaching methods, introduction of active methods and
modern information technologies of education.
The use
of information media in subject teaching, technology of computer lessons and
use of the Internet in the educational process are discussed in the works of several scholars ( W. Bespalko, E. Polat, G.
Piotrowski, J. Robert, G. Seleucus, B.
Hershunskyy, Horvits Yu, L. Marine, G. Dudeney, N. Hockly ).
Formation
of communicative competence of students is an urgent problem. Research supports
the fact that the computer linguistics allows integration of existing methods
of teaching foreign languages through the use of multimedia technologies which are
able to model the linguistic and communicative reality and form competence in
listening, speaking, reading and writing. Therefore, the study of the didactic
potential and such methods development of Internet resources as a blog, wiki,
podcast, webquest, chat and e-mail) in teaching English to improve the
effectiveness of training is especially important in modern methods of teaching
foreign languages.
For
example, a blog is a type of website that occasionally filled with new
information which is represented in chronological order. Training Blog or an edublog can be created by a teacher (a
tutor blog) and student (a student blog) or a group of students (a class /
group blog).
Teachers
use a blog to provide students with materials for extra reading, summaries of
classes, sample tasks for individual work, samples of the control tests,
questions for self-check, a list of references of additional sources of
information on the topic being studied, methodological recommendations on
writing course / diploma; methodological recommendations for student interns
and so on.
At the
same time, students are encouraged to create a personal blog where they are
assigned the task, for example, twice a week to post information for execution of
practical problems.
In
foreign language teaching blog is considered as:
• a technology
for interactive foreign language teaching;
• a distance
learning model of foreign languages;
• a means
of language, speech, social and cultural knowledge, competence and skills integration;
• systematic
means of stimulating students' independent work;
• means
of establishing feedback with every student at particular stages of training
and control of language skills and competence which positively affect the
timely adjustment of the educational process;
• a
means of intensifying the training process and increase of foreign language learning
motivation;
• environment
for the development of the creative potential of the student.
Thus,
the computerization of foreign languages teaching creates conditions
for effective solution of a variety of didactic tasks in the formation of
English communication competence:
• extension
of active and passive vocabulary through the use of electronic dictionaries and
encyclopaedias;
• development of skills in reading different through various kinds of authentic English
language material in the Internet;
•
improvement of listening skills based on existing task from the Internet or created audio and video podcasts
by teachers and students;

podcasts, discussion in chat rooms and e-mail communication;
• improvement of writing skills (blog, wiki,
e-mail);
• development
of self-studying skills, ability to process information in English, which
contributes, in turn, to the development of critical thinking and formation of
lifelong learning competencies.
The introduction of information technologies
in the educational process in foreign languages requires
qualitative changes in the methodical preparation of future teachers of foreign
languages in order to form ready for use
of Internet resources in the classroom, and browsing the organizational forms
of training emerged today : a significant increase in individual and group of
students, increasing the number of design work and research. A perspective
technology is the introduction of online learning of foreign languages (e-learning, online
teaching).
