Gas-piston diesel locomotive
Designers of Bryansk Engineering Plant began to be engaged in innovative
development of a six-axis shunting diesel locomotive of TEM19 in 2012.
Appearance of the locomotive is determined by cryogenic reservoir for
storage of LNG and the system of gas-preparation. The cooling system of the
gas-piston engine using antifreeze as cooling liquid is applied in its design.
A carriage part of a diesel locomotive is designed based on the TEM18DM
locomotive.
The main distinctive feature of a diesel locomotive is the gas-piston
engine using completely natural gas. Operation of the engine on natural gas
without using of diesel fuel allows to reduce significantly:
• operating expenses on fuel due to use of cheaper natural gas;
• emissions of hazardous substances due to use of the power plant using
natural gas.
Natural gas is stored onboard in the liquefied state since it allows to
reduce required amount of storage significantly.
Using LNG as a fuel allows to reduce significantly operating costs and considerably
reduces amount of harmful emissions in the atmosphere. The block principle of
configuration simplifies servicing and repairing of the locomotive. Using motor
and axial rolling bearings excludes servicing of wheel and motor blocks from
engineering procedure.
TEM19 is equipped with a complex of security systems. Thanks to modern
noise-insulating materials working conditions of the engine driver are being significantly
improved, general noise level decreases. The system of a microclimate is provided
in a cabin, the ergonomics are thought over. The Gas-piston diesel locomotive is
designed according to the modular principle. TEM19 contains modules of an
engine driver cabin, cryogenic installation with the system of gas-preparation
and supply of liquefied natural gas, the engine - generating installation, a
cooling system, the hardware camera, the electrodynamic brake equipment, and
the compressor block.
The separate module contains the service equipment located under a
diesel locomotive frame. The used principle of configuration simplifies
servicing and repairing of a gas-diesel locomotive.
The diesel locomotive is equipped with the gas engine and special
reservoir container with layered and vacuum isolation for storage of cryogenic
fuel (LNG). This cryogenic system is completed with the block of a cryogenic
fitting, flexible and tough cryogenic pipelines, and also system of
regasification for the organization of natural gas supply in regular gaseous
state in the locomotive engine.
It is remarkable that the engine of a diesel locomotive works on Otto's
cycle, that is ignition of air-gas mix
comes from a spark. Earlier domestic diesel locomotives using methane worked on
a gas-diesel cycle. In need of locomotive equipment reservoir for fuel can be
dismantled and a new one can be established easily that significantly cuts
expenses of filling.
It is supposed that TEM19 diesel locomotive in case of start-off from
the place will realize the tangent force of draft 35,7 tons, and in the long
mode — 10,9 tons. Constructional speed of the locomotive is established by 100
km/h. Design features of a gas-piston diesel locomotive of TEM19 allow to
provide decrease in emissions of hazardous substances and to reduce smoke of
the fulfilled gases. Proceeding from calculations, operation of a shunting
diesel locomotive of TEM19 will allow to lower costs for energy resources
significantly up to 20% a year.
In October, 2013 the prototype of the locomotive is sent to the Research
design-technology institute of railway vehicles for the commissioning testing
including completion and revision of the locomotive operability, and also compliance to its declared
characteristics.
On December 21, 2013 TEM19-001 made the first experimental trip on the
experimental platform of JSC VNIKTI in Kolomna, and then proceeded on the site
of Golutvin — Ozyora.
At the beginning of 2014 the gas-piston diesel locomotive is sent for
certified testing. Receipt of the certificate of conformity which will allow to
operate the locomotive on the public ways, was planned for the end of 2014.
As of 2015 the locomotive passed all required tests and can be used on a
railway network.
On November 12, 2015 maintenance of the locomotive on
the cycle TO-5 is carried out in the SLD Artyomovsky. Next day filling of a
diesel locomotive with fuel weighing 3170 kg is made in KP GRS-4 LNG. On
November 16, 2015 it was planned to issue TEM19-001 in operation at the station
Egorshino.
