The Role of Internet Resources in the Process of Studying Foreign Languages

As Nelson Mandela said: «If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart». It means that nowadays studying languages is very important for those who want to survive.

In modern society, the most promising and popular teaching techniques in teaching foreign languages are Internet-based technologies that have become an integral part of the learning process throughout the world. Many programs for higher education include the use of the Internet in the educational process that not only develops the students' cognitive activity, but also increases their motivation to study foreign languages.

The use of information technology leads to the coping with the age, temporal, and spatial barriers and provides an opportunity to learn throughout their lives. Internet helps to build skills in speaking, as well as learning vocabulary and grammar, gives students the opportunity to communicate with real interlocutors on actual topics, creates the conditions for obtaining the necessary information held anywhere in the world: regional studies material news from the lives of young people , articles from newspapers and magazines, etc. It should be noted that, despite the shortage of free time, students are able to spend the whole night at the computer, experiencing positive emotions in this case. This special diligence in front of a monitor can be efficiently used in the educational process, but, of course, without harming to their health.

The teacher can use the Internet as a source of additional materials in preparation for the lesson. Materials can be printed and used in class. Of course, this way is only part of the Internet resources. The most effective power of the Internet revealed when it is used in the student audience.

Now the students who are acquainted with the technique and computer, quite easily go to the study of foreign languages in the computer environment. For example, students can use computer programs recommended by the teacher. Then they refine these skills by using online resources, where they look for the needed information and literature in foreign language.

Another type of work is using the youth sites of communication, e-mail. Communication with peers in a foreign language helps students to understand better the mentality of the representatives of another culture. You can access the electronic catalog of one of the central libraries of the country the language is spoken, to enter into correspondence in a foreign language, including references to find the necessary book or periodical. You can explore the possibilities of an internship abroad, learning environment in the universities, to carry out pre-order tickets for the various modes of transport, to know the conditions of hotel accommodation in the area of the language, etc.

Students may participate in testing, in quizzes, contests, competitions, organized by the Internet, participate in videoconferences, etc., and use the Internet to get information on the latest developments in the world.

Thus, students are immersed in an artificially created linguistic environment, which they can use further for independent work. The results should be discussed with the teacher in class and successfully completed assignments should be collectively analyzed, as well as failures and mistakes of students.

However, the use of Internet resources in the learning process requires the preparation of teachers. Now a teacher of foreign languages should be able to navigate the vast amount of Internet resources that provide the mastery of a foreign language in the unity of the culture of its speakers, and largely facilitate the work of teachers and increase the effectiveness of the educational process.

The teacher should choose such methods of teaching foreign languages to enable each student to show their activity, their creativity. The task of the teacher is to enhance the cognitive activity of students in learning foreign languages. But this is changing his/her position, he/she ceases to be a center of learning and becoming a consultant and organizer of the research process, search, information processing to create artistic works. With the integration of Internet resources in the learning process of students formed an interest in learning foreign languages, there is a desire to find and learn the necessary information on your own.

Finally let us consider the words of Bill Gates: “The Internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow“.
