Use of computer presentation at lessons of professional English

In the annual message to the people of Kazakhstan, the Head of state N. A. Nazarbayev pays special attention to the education section, its quality and modernisation, development of languages. It isn't casual as qualified personnel is necessary for our young state, experts whom it is possible to become only after quality secondary, vocational and higher education, at desire to work by the chosen profession, constantly raising the qualification level, relying on knowledge of foreign languages.

The purpose of my article is comprehensive consideration of a method of use of presentations on occupation of professional English for the purpose of its application in educational process, for complete mastering communicative skills, professional terminology, aspects of foreign-language culture, types of speech activity.

Use of computer technologies, innovations in the course of training allows to approach to a question of training of a professional foreign language of students of not language specialities with higher quality.

Giving classes, I apply various methods: active, interactive, (explanatory and illustrative, reproductive, partial and search, research).

 

 

 

 

I study and put into practice various technologies, but I consider that the future behind design and computer technology. In what area of science each of us wouldn't try to gain knowledge, to develop the skills, gradually starts being engaged in research activity, to work over projects, so to use computer programs, Internet connection. As the scientific world develops with a high speed, and not possibly to track innovations in the field of education by means of periodicals practically, mastering and improvement by computer literacy for the teacher is the main task. Studying of innovations really when using computer technology, for introduction of new forms and methods of training, increase of level of global thinking.

Relevance of presentations is obvious. By consideration of features of behaviour and business etiquette of representatives of various countries it is visible that British are very active on various symposiums, seminars, exhibitions where presentations as additional information are used. Americans pay attention to advertising and presentations at collection of information. All information is perceived by the personality in more available form when using presentation. "At a script writing of presentation it is important to consider the next moments: allocation of basic elements of presentation, creation of structure of the main part of presentation, distribution of a training material on slides, search of additional information, a reasoning out of expositions, check of logic of giving of a material, conclusion preparation. Already at this stage the complex of exercises  has to be developed"[2].

On a practical training of professional English, using the multimedia equipment, laptops, I apply training and informative programs (Power Point).

Considering E.I. Passov's theory, about application of certain types of exercises on occupations, I will agree that " transformational, reproductive, the new properties caused by technical capabilities of the program get" [3].

 

 

 

 

It is necessary to tell about advantages of computer presentations:

- emphasis of attention of students on especially important points of offered information;

- use of illustrations, schemes, charts in colourful processing – increases motivation of students;

- impact on types of memory: visual, acoustical, emotional;

- promotes increase of efficiency of perception and storing of a training material;

- saving of time when switching from one kind of activity on another.

Work on presentation develops logical and creative thinking, imagination, the imagination at students.

Work forms, with use of computer presentations on practical occupation of English include:

- carrying out background and speech charging

- fixing of professional lexicon

- training in reading

- training of the dialogical and monological speech;

- working off of the grammatical phenomena;

I suggest to consider the following stages of work for students of veterinary specialities when carrying out phone-speech charging on a subject: "Classes of animals":

1 . Situation "Dialogue" [4]

Ò: How many classes of domestic animals do you know?
P:
   All domestic animals are divided into the three main classes; herbivorous, carnivorous and omnivorous.

2  .  The message of the teacher on any event, connected with life.

-The domestic cat gets all its requirements from the supplements which are added to manufactured cat food.

-The London Zoo was established in 1828 by the Zoological Society of London.

-Some new ways of treating pets are given in the book which will be published next year.

For mastering basic skills and skills of business communication in oral and written forms of a professional foreign language students have to fill up the dictionary minimum actively.

I offer work stages when carrying out introduction and fixing of professional lexicon:

- phrases with illustrations

- pronunciation and lexicon fixing (work group, in couples)

- control of the studied lexicon (specify the correct variant of translation)

Work stages when training the dialogical speech with use of professional terminology:

- acquaintance to dialogue

- dialogue learning

- drawing up own dialogue

Practical tasks include the most common grammatical designs, turns of speech and the professional lexicon necessary for oral and written language.  Systematic performance of practical tasks gives the chance to students to train lexicon and the selected grammatical models.

Use of this technology leads to stable positive results in training in professional English.

 

 

 

 

 

When training the grammatical phenomena I offer the following stages of work:

- use of effects of animation, allocation by bright color of the grammatical phenomenon

For example tasks of-level differentiation for a subject: "The Passive Voice" [4]

1 . To apply theoretical knowledge in a simple situation. - Copy the offer, inserting the passed letters. The boys f_und a be_r c_ught in a trap which had b_en se_ by hunters.

Write the offer in negative and interrogative forms.

2 . To apply theoretical knowledge in the changed situation: [4]

- There are many people today who think that animals should not be kept in zoos.

- There are many people today who think that domestic animals ...

Write the offer in negative and interrogative forms.

3 . Partial and search

- From the offered offers to choose offers in The Passive Voice. [4]

Example:

-The capability to produce milk is one of the distinctive features of this group.

-A lot of food products that we buy today are pre-cooked of frozen.

4  .  Creative.

The presentation in the Power Point program possesses the properties different from traditional means of presentation. "Interactivity ability definitely to change and react to actions of the user that allows it to define an order and volume of provided information, and also to make necessary changes to the same presentation" [5]. It is very convenient, when performing such tasks as the description of the offered illustration in this time.

 

 

 

 

At a work stage when training in reading, the special attention me is paid to psychological installation: "Sit down right. Look at this picture. Think about classes of animals …, to morally emotional climate, atmosphere of goodwill and mutual responsibility. It is very important as, working over the special text, the student forms ability to read and translate literature in the speciality and as skills of oral speech within the passable subject.

The text is a basis for search of professional information on a presentation subject. Students get into gear of search, research, studying of experience of known experts. As a result, children process large volume professional focused information that promotes development of lexical and grammatical skills.

A variety of tasks is defined by a purpose on development of abilities to combine words, to use the necessary word form, to use professional terminology in a certain context and an offered situation.

Speech development, with use of professional terminology, happens through creation of a situation of interest. Solving of crossword puzzles, creation of mini-projects (mini-presentations) develops interest to self-education, search of new ideas and information.

On occupations I practice tongue twister application for development of an accurate pronunciation (step by step).

In mini-presentation all types of speech activity are combined: there is a commenting of illustrations on a subject, scoring of information which stayed behind scenes, audition and the letter. Audition happens at protection of presentation. Students perceive the speech of the speaker aurally.

 

 

 

 

 

Fixing professional text information, printing it on slides, develop skills of the letter.

More responsibly and creatively students approach to a question of preparation of presentation, knowing that this presentation will be demanded at lessons of a professional foreign language.

Summing up the result of application of computer presentations on occupations of professional English, I drew a conclusion that computer presentations:

- improve quality of assimilation of a professional material

- accelerate training process

- do occupation informative, live, productive

- promote motivation increase to a subject

- develop creative abilities of students
