Multicultural
environment as a factor of development of the University of an Innovative Type
Today, an
increasing number of the leading universities of Russia redefines itself as a supplier of educational services, the
accumulator and the conductor of advanced science-based ideas and technologies, defines for itself new
super-tasks on transforming into a university of the new formation-an integrator of the interests of
science and education, industry and business. Modern Technical
University turns into the University of an Innovative Type, capable
of solving problems in the preparation of the
new generation graduates– highly-qualified specialists in their field of
expertise.
Criteria and the principles of the
organization of such a university include
the following directions: the
development of innovative education system, the result of which is to train
specialists capable of providing the positive changes in
their professional activity and, ultimately, in the economy and social sphere of Russia; advanced training of elite world-class
specialists based on the integration of education, research and production; the development of infrastructure interaction
of the University with the external environment, the formation of strategic partnerships with universities, the academic science, industry, business
and government authorities.
Organization of language education in a technical college at a new level is responsible for solving the tasks indicated above
when a foreign language becomes a means of academic and professional activity, means of professional self-expression
and self-improvement. The foreign language used in scientific and educational environment
of a separate institution among Russian and foreign teachers, researchers and
students is a key factor in forming a unique system - a multicultural language
environment conducive to the solution of many tasks - the transformation of the
university into the center of international education and academic exchanges,
training elite specialists on the principles of humanization of higher
professional education.
An actual problem in
the field of language education in the context of such a direction of
development of modern technical university becomes effective organization of the
process of learning a foreign language, including for
the purpose of academic and professional intercultural communication.
The competence approach to professional education in a technical college
suggests a fundamentally new approach to goal-setting of educational programs
and academic disciplines. Modern educational programs, thus represent a
symbiosis of foreign-language socio-cultural knowledge and skills and a group
of professional knowledge and skills related to the specifics of the
speciality, which is mastered by the future specialists in the field of
engineering and technology. In this regard rethinking of substantial filling of
language programs realized in a technical college is becoming particularly
urgent where priority is not so much language training, but training of
professional intercultural communication.
Transition
to the new concept of organization and content of the process of learning a
foreign language, the expansion of learning objectives, namely, the
implementation of the principle of integration of a foreign language in their
professional and educational activities - all of this dictates the need for the
establishment of additional conditions and resources contributing to the
achievement of the goals described above.
Formation
of multicultural environment at the University
is aimed at training norms of intercultural communication; the formation
of ideas of the relationship between general planetary, inter-cultural and
national ethics of verbal and nonverbal communication in terms of intercultural
interaction; training specialists in the field of engineering and technology
and teachers of technical sciences to fulfill the role of the subject of the
dialogue of cultures and expansion of the scope of foreign language in academic
and professional activity of teachers and students.
