ENGLISH TEACHING METHODOLOGY

A language becomes an instrument of communication, the purpose of which is to help complete the task successfully. Students can use any language they need to reach their objective. Usually there is no correct answer for a task outcome. Students choose their own way of completing it, using the language they see fit. The introduction of modern technologies allows learning to be even more so as to use the educational potential of a foreign language as an academic subject.  It is important that language students, as well as teachers, understand and can apply various methods and techniques.

Over the past fifty years methods of teaching English have been developing at a fast pace, fitting the lesson to the learner, but not the learner to the lesson. Every class, as well as every student is unique, and requires special consideration. It is necessary to go deeper, analyze each group, and find out what will make it most productive. There is a definite, unique flow and energy that will require the proper mindset on the part of the instructor. The students’ involvement and an interesting subject matter are important in promoting keen interest in their learning experience.

Of late, the method of projects has been widely used during the practice of teaching foreign languages in schools and universities, which involves the creativity of pupils, inducing them to do research activities and allows to actually integrate different disciplines, using different modes of studying and organizing cooperative learning. The core of all approaches to learning is the focus on the students’ joint work and the cooperation of educational process subjects - students and teachers.

The most effective method of designing and creating an educational space within the Foreign Language subject is a cultural approach to training exercises in the cultural space of humanitarian methods and means of culture proper. Every lesson of a foreign language is a crossroad of different cultures. The study of culture from the position of a person’s attitude and outlook means that the object may be in the process of integrating lessons, taking into account the inter-subject relationships, which is in fact the study of geography, history, literature, art and poetry of the linguistic area studies.

Project-based learning provides a student-centered education and training, as it practically covers other modern technologies. The project method gives the teacher an opportunity to get the students involved in real communication, contacts based on research, on joint work, and to see the results of their real work activity.

By the method of projects we imply the way of achieving specific methodological goals via developing problems and obtaining practical results.

The project work means the student’s self-study work that requires the ability of setting the problem, identifying ways of addressing it, planning the work, compiling the essential material, etc. Thus, in the course of this activity students develop their intellectual skills, tenacity, perseverance, hard work, acquire certain study skills while learning through the acquisition of knowledge and skills provides social and professional adaptation in the society. The use of the project method allows creating an individual perception of the world, the possibility of its creative transformation, extensive use of subjective experience in the interpretation and evaluation of facts, phenomena, events of the surrounding reality based on student-significant values.

The initial stage of the project includes the introduction and discussion of the topics offered in the classroom providing the students with basic vocabulary and grammar in accordance with the theme, and the students learn how to make up sentences using the active vocabulary. Practical work on the project begins at the stage of consolidating the educational material and its revision, and becomes a harmonious part of the learning process.

The project not only makes it possible to use a foreign language at the level of real communication in the discussion, but also allows improving certain aspects of language teaching speech etiquette. In the design procedure the formation of linguistic and country study knowledge, the development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and abilities are carried out in parallel.

It can be concluded that the project method is indeed the most adequate technology of learner-centered education that makes it possible to use modern approaches to education and strengthens an educational support, socialization, involving the students in different kinds of media, as well as creating the student-centered situation in education. Furthermore, practical results in the form of a regional booklet, newspaper, collage, report preparation, presentations and speeches at the conference, displaying of advertisements, etc. increase the students’ motivation.
